Wyld (James); 'Wyld's New Plan of London', circa 1851, wood engraved map with some contemporary hand-colouring, decorative border with title also in French and German, topographical vignette views including author's own 'Model of the Earth' Leicester Square exhibition etc., in 40 sections and strengthened with linen to verso (not sectionalised), overall 560mm x 945mm, lacking publisher's advertising end boards Note; published as a street finding guide for Visitors to the 1851 Great Exhibition, The Crystal Palace showing in Hyde Park, covers the area between Holland Park in the East and Greenwich to the West.
Provenance; The Alan Winning Collection of Antiquarian Maps, Books and Atlases. Beginning in the 1970’s with an interest in the 19th Century development of the railway network and the County Maps of this period that charted it, Alan expanded his academic interest into good early printed maps, town plans, travel guides, books and atlases and has been adding to his collection over the past 50 years.
